Detroit Lakes provides a public swimming area on Little Detroit Lake, just 3 miles northeast of the venue, that features a beautiful mile-long sandy beach to stretch out and relax. Bring your beach towels and enjoy some fun in the sun with friends during your downtime. The beach is also within walking distance to many popular local restaurants; it’s a great way to spend a little down time and explore the local area. Please DO NOT use the lake for bathing as soaps and chemicals can be detrimental to wildlife!

Big Detroit Lake offers 14 miles of shoreline, plenty of room for boating, tubing, water skiing, jet skis, kayaking, paddle boarding and more. Bring your own equipment or rent it from the local marina. A public boat launch provides parking for those launching boats and jet skis. The lake is also within walking distance to many popular local restaurants.

Grab your closest friends and take a float down Ottertail River, located just 15 minutes east from the festival grounds. This activity takes approximately two hours and is a great way to relax and take in the sun while you wait for the music to start each day. The cost per person is only $10, and we highly recommend going with our friends at Charlie’s Ottertail Tubing to receive the best experience. They provide friendly service and the longest float down the Ottertail River for you and your friends. Please note no glass bottles or styrofoam coolers are allowed and a $10 cash deposit is required.

The Shooting Star Casino is located 39 miles north of the WE Fest grounds in Mahnomen. It is a top entertainment destination in the region featuring a Las Vegas style casino floor with over 1,000 slot machines, 14 table games including Poker, Blackjack, Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’Em, Let It Ride, Lucky, Lucky Blackjack and Xtreme 21+3 Blackjack and a 365 seat Bingo Hall!
Detroit Lakes boasts more than half a dozen golf courses in the area and all are great for any skill level. Detroit Country Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016 and is home to one of the longest-running tournaments in the state, the Pine to Palm. All of the courses feature great views, with many on the lake itself. If you’re a golfer, don’t forget your clubs and come tee it up.

Miniature golf is fun for the whole family, and Detroit Lakes has a terrific course located at the Forest Hills Resort. Rock’n Waters Extreme Mini Golf is an 18 hole challenging, picturesque course that is great for kids and adults alike ($5 for kids, $8 for adults, kids 3 and under are free). We hope your up for a challenge; this course includes bridges, water obstacles and other hazards that are sure to make for a great time!

Grab your mountain bikes and hit the trails at Detroit Mountain, which offers myriad options for mountain biking on its beautiful trails. There’s something for every skill level at Detroit Mountain, so whether you’re a novice or are down for the tough trails, all can be found here. There is even a strider course for the little ones! Bring your own bikes or simply rent one on the mountain.

If being out in nature is your thing, Detroit Lakes features several great options for hiking with plenty of great scenery. Sucker Creek Reserve, just a few miles east of Detroit Lakes, offers 117 acres of woods, prairie and a gorgeous trout stream. Detroit Mountain offers plenty of hiking trails good for the entire family. Tamarac Wildlife Refuge, about 18 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes, has beautiful rolling hills and you can’t miss its best feature — the Tamarac Tree.

Looking for something to do literally off the beaten path while you’re at the festival? Timberline Ranch offers horseback riding just 15 minutes northeast of the festival venue. Especially if you are attending with a family, this is great place to get out and enjoy the fresh air before the music starts. They welcome riders 6 years of age and up for a one hour long ride through the countryside. Capacity is limited with two rides daily at 9AM and 11AM, so we recommend making a reservation far in advance by calling (218) 847-3886; the cost is $40 per rider and there is a weight limit of 230 Ibs.

Detroit Lakes is also home to Shady Hollow Flea Market; one of the largest of its kind in all of Minnesota for over 45 years.
